Dear Cedaredge Elementary School Parents and Families,

We hope all of you are healthy and looking forward to the upcoming school year. Today, Delta County School District released its Restart Plan for this year. Between the new online model run through our school district as well as a return to in-person learning, we hope you find the educational approach that best fits your family. We are excited that students may return to school! But we also take this step very seriously and are committed to the safety of our students and staff - as always, it remains our top priority.

In order to help us best prepare for the first weeks of school, please complete this survey accompanying this letter (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/V9WY87F) that will ask you if you intend to register your child for online learning through our district-led Colorado Digital Learning Solutions program or our traditional in-person model at CES (this will not replace actual registration but is intended to give us a quick snapshot). Please fill out the survey as soon as possible, and please know that if you have questions, we will be available tomorrow, August 6th from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for our annual Registration Day. You are encouraged to register your child online from home, but if you need help registering, we will be here to help. And we realize you may have questions about how CES will implement the district plan. So, in order to aid your decision, we want to share these procedures with you.

To start the day, students will have their temperature checked before coming on campus. Students riding the bus will have their temperature checked before entering the bus. Students walking or being dropped off will have their temperature checked before moving to the playground. To ensure that no students are missed prior to our school day starting, the doors will open at 7:30 a.m., and students will not be allowed into the building before that time. As a result, we do ask families to drop their children off using our student drop-off area, located on the west side of our field. Students will line up in their homeroom classes, which will be their main “cohort,” to enter the school and place their backpacks and coats on the back of their chairs and then wash their hands.

Hand washing and sanitizing will be increased throughout the day, including before and after lunch, recesses, and specials. Tables, chairs, and equipment will be disinfected any time a transition between cohorts occurs, such as sports equipment used in PE. Students will use their own personal supplies inside of the classroom. Shared supplies, such as computers/tablets, will be disinfected between use by students.

Adjustments will be made to our schedule to limit students in the cafeteria and playground during school day. With the exception of a limited number of parent volunteers, these adjustments also include no longer allowing visitors on campus before or during the school day, and families who are dropping off or picking up their students before or after school may not enter the building. Once the school day has started, if you need to bring an item for your child, you may enter the building but wearing a mask is required and you may not go past the office. Masks are encouraged for students and required for staff during transition times and when within six feet of students.

We can’t wait for students to return to Cedaredge Elementary! While these procedures will differ from prior years, they reflect our desire to keep students, staff and our families safe. And we continue to be confident that students that are able to be at Cedaredge Elementary School will be exposed to wonderful learning opportunities as well as the personal and intellectual growth that follow rich learning environments. These procedures may change based on recommendations from the local health department, as conditions warrant.  We look forward to August 19th as the first day of school and please don’t forget to formally register your child!
